Djokovic, Nadal, Serena advanced into the second round of US Open

Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal both advanced into the second round of U.S. Open, while China's French Open champion Li Na losted in the first round on Tuesday.

Djokovic enjoyed a comfortable walk through into the second round as his opponent Conor Niland retired trailing 6-0, 5-1 for food poisoning, who threw up and pulled out of the tournament in just 44 minutes.

French Open champ Li Na out of US Open

French Open champion Li Na committed 54 unforced errors and was eliminated in the first round of the U.S. Open by 53rd-ranked teenager Simona Halep on Tuesday.

The seeded sixth Li  lost 6-2, 7-5 to Romania's Halep, suffering first-round exit for the second time in a row.

Caroline Wozniacki remains undefeated at New Haven

Caroline Wozniacki joined Venus Williams as a player who has won four successive titles at New Haven and became only the tenth woman in the Open Era to win a WTA event four times in a row. After a bye in the first round, Wozniacki defeated Polona Hercog, Christina McHale, Francesca Schiavone, and finally qualifier Petra Cetkovska 6-4 6-1.

Djokovic seeded No. 1 at US Open

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic is seeded No. 1 at the U.S. Open for the first time, followed by defending champion Rafael Nadal and five-time winner Roger Federer.

The tournament followed the ATP rankings for the men’s singles seedings Wednesday. It did the same for the women’s seedings, with Serena Williams 28th. Read more »
